Course Description
Who should attend? Dentists, Assistants, Hygienists, and Office Staff who need to support clinical staff. Participants will develop an understanding of Patient Evaluation, Consultation, Informed Consent, Post-Operative Instructions, Armamentarium, Local Anesthesia, Flap Design, Potential intraoperative Complications and their Management, and Medical Emergencies. Surgical techniques discussed will include Dental Extraction with Bone Graft, Minor pre-prosthetic Surgery, Mandibular Tori removal, Tuberosity reduction, Exostosis removal, Sublingual Frenectomy, Simple biopsy technique,, Routine and Surgical extractions, and Wisdom teeth extractions.
About Dr. Valdez
Dr. Ernest E. Valdez is a native of San Antonio. He earned his BS from St. Mary's University and his DDS at UTHSCSA in 1993. After graduation he practiced at community health centers in New Mexico and south Texas, and in 1999, Dr. Valdez returned to the UTHSCSA where he completed a two-year GPR with emphasas in hospital-based dentistry, dental treatment of medically-complex and compromised patients, various oral surgical techniques, and IV sedation. In 2001, Dr. Valdez entered private practice in San Antonio and later took a clinical faculty position at the UTHSCSA in the OMS Department for 11 years. He returned to private practice in San Antonio where he continues to provide general dentistry services with an emphasis on surgery and parenteral sedation. Dr. Valdez continues to lecture for UTHSCSA continuing dental education courses in Nitrous Oxide Sedation, Level 1 Sedation, and Medical Emergency Prevention and Management in the Dental Office. Dr. Valdez is currently a member of the Special Care Dentistry Organization, American Association of Hospital Dentists, International Association of Student Clinicians, ADA, TDA, San Antonio District Dental Society, and the American Dental Society of Anesthesiology.
