This interactive online CE course satisfies specific requirements under TSBDE Rules 111.1 (Prescribing and Monitoring Controlled Substances) and 104.1 (Pain Management).  When you complete this course, you will have met the following requirements:

• (2) hours required to meet rule 111.1 (required to complete a minimum of 2 hours every three years). 

• In addition, the same (2) hours will satisfy the annual requirement for (2) CE hours regarding safe and effective pain management related to the prescription of opioids and other controlled substances under TSBDE Rule 104.1*.
  
  (*Under rule 104.1, 2 CE hours regarding safe and effective pain management related to the prescription of opioids and other controlled substances is required annually. For biennial license renewal, you must have completed no less than 4 CE hours regarding safe and effective pain management related to the prescription of opioids and other controlled substances.

Per TSBDE, this interactive online CE counts towards the required 16 hours of technical or scientific coursework.

Course Objectives:

• Understand how to use opioids less than optimally

• Appreciate how to incorporate opioids into analgesic regimens safely

• Understand how/when other non-opioid analgesics are not indicated
