Course Description
This course is designed to emphasize the importance of myofunctional therapy when addressing the airway and Sleep Breath Disorders. Emphasize the importance of myofunctional therapy when addressing restricted oral tissues. Discuss the benefits in utilizing lasers when addressing TOT’s (Tethered Oral Tissues) and discuss screening for orofacial dysfunction.
About the Speakers
Dr. Laura Lukin has been practicing general dentistry since 2006. With time, she developed a passion for airway development and maintenance. As a dentist, she looks at jaw, palate, and facial development, and assesses how it relates to the airway. Dr. Laura’s vision for Airway Health Dentistry is to spread awareness by educating patients and other healthcare professionals on the connection between the mouth and craniofacial development that impacts the airway. Dr. Laura is passionate about setting children on the right path towards health and wellness by preventing issues such as sleep disordered breathing and chronic allergies. She also works with adults to improve health and wellness with treatments in office, or in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team of other health professionals. Dr. Laura is the founder of the Houston Airway Study Club which now consists of over a hundred healthcare professionals including Dentists, Dental Specialists, Physicians (including Sleep Neurologists and Otolaryngologists), and Orofacial Myologists. She is also a member of the International Affiliation of Tongue Tie Professionals, American Academy of Physiological Medicine & Dentistry, Academy of Laser Dentistry, American Academy of Sleep Medicine, American Academy of Oral Systemic Health, International Association of Orofacial Myology, Spear Education Faculty Club, Academy of General Dentistry, Texas Dental Association, and the American Dental Association. She is also the busy wife of a dentist, a mom to three girls, and she enjoys reading, traveling, surfing and long distance running. in office, or in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team of other health professionals. Kristie Gatto, MA, CCC-SLP, COM® received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Houston in Houston, Texas. She has worked as a speech-language pathologist in the public and private school systems, skilled nursing, rehabilitation and children’s hospitals, and in private practice. In 2004, Ms. Gatto became the co-owner of a private practice in Northwest Houston and began her journey in treating children with pediatric feeding disorders. After years of searching for answers in traditional feeding approaches, she underwent training in the field of Orofacial Myology and became the first certified orofacial myologist in the city of Houston in 2011. Ms. Gatto is currently the owner of The Speech and Language Connection, which has two offices in the greater Houston area and employs 24 speech-language pathologists with various specialties. For the past fifteen years, she has focused her clinical skills on treating patients with issues in feeding, dysphagia, deglutition, oral sensory aversion, orofacial myology, and swallowing- related disorders, as well as articulation, phonological processing, apraxia, and early childhood intervention.!

Individuals who are sick are discouraged from attending in-person events or to leave events if they begin to experience symptoms. If you have symptoms of a virus, which could include fever, cough, and shortness of breath, you are discouraged from attending the event and encouraged to follow CDC guidelines. If you become sick at the event, please promptly follow CDC guidelines, and notify event organizer by email or phone. In addition, if you believe you have been in close contact with someone who has been exposed to the COVID-19 virus, you are also discouraged from attending any in-person meetings and it is recommended you follow CDC guidance on what to do when sick.
