Course Description
The Fort Worth Academy of General Dentistry (FWAGD) is pleased to partner with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Dallas Field Division and Drop the Drugs, Inc to sponsor this continuing education program for Texas dental professionals. This LIVE interactive webinar offers a 4 Lecture Hours CE course designed to comply with the new Texas State Board Dental (TSBDE) rule 104.1 (effective January 1, 2021) regarding safe and effective pain management related to the prescription of opioids and other controlled substances. This new rule applies to ALL licensed dentists in direct patient care.

Effective January 1, 2021, a licensed dentist whose practice includes direct patient care must complete at least four (4) CE hours for each biennial renewal, regarding safe and effective pain management related to the prescription of opioids and other controlled substances.

About the Speakers
Mack Snead, DDS, FAGD, MAGD – FWAGD President
Dr. Snead currently serves as co-director of the Texas Academy of General Dentistry’s MasterTrack® program and President of the Fort Worth Academy of General Dentistry(FWAGD). He is a graduate of the University of Texas at Arlington and the University of Texas Dental Branch. He has been in private practice in Fort Worth since 1980.
Lisa D Sullivan, DEA Diversion Program Manager - Dental Trends & Opioids
Ms. Sullivan graduated from New Mexico State University with a Bachelor of Criminal Justice degree. She began her career with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) in 1990 as a Diversion Investigator in the San Antonio District Office. In 2000, she became the Diversion Group Supervisor in the San Antonio Office. The group was responsible for the dismantling and successful prosecution of one of the first internet pharmaceutical cases in the country. In 2005 Ms. Sullivan was transferred to the E-Commerce Section of the Office of Diversion Control DEA in Washington DC. There she worked on the CSOS program (the newly established controlled substance electronic ordering system), and the electronic prescriptions initiative (EPCS).
Monica “mOe” Anderson, DDS, DBA – Deterring Drug Misuse with Effective Communication
Dr. Anderson graduated from Baylor University and the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry. She is the Founder of Drop the Drugs, Inc a 501(c)(3) educational nonprofit working to combat the opioid crisis. She is also a member of the executive board of the FWAGD. Currently, she is a full-time certified Dental Consultant licensed in three states. Her healthcare background includes private practice ownership, Director of a Federally Qualified Health Center, Director for a Quality Improvement Organization, Director for Texas Medicaid & Healthcare Partnership, Director of Clinical management for DentaQuest managing a multidisciplinary team of dental consultants working in multiple locations. She has authored numerous articles in dental journals both online and in print. She is the author of seven books, a podcaster, a conference speaker, and a former newspaper columnist for the Star-Telegram, a major daily newspaper.
Terri Burrows, RPH, Pharm D, Texas State Board of Pharmacy Compliance Officer – Texas PMP
Terri Burrows is a graduate of the University of Oklahoma, College of Pharmacy and a graduate of the University of Texas, College of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.). She also completed a Master’s Degree in Patient Safety & Risk Management from the University of Florida, College of Pharmacy, and a Law degree from Concord Law School. She has worked in several areas of pharmacy practice including hospital, community, and academia before becoming interested in regulatory practice. Currently, she is a Compliance Officer in the Dallas area for the Texas State Board of Pharmacy. She performs inspections of all classes of licensed pharmacies, explains compliance-related deficiencies to pharmacists, advises pharmacy personnel on methods of correction, and provides education on pharmacy laws and rules.
Dr. Jayne Reuben - Director, Instructional Associate Professor, Department of Biomedical Sciences at Texas A&M University College of Dentistry – Standards of Care and Guidelines for Prescribing Opioids
Dr. Reuben currently serves as the course director for all undergraduate pharmacology courses in the DDS curriculum and the Clinical Pharmacology course for dental residents. She returned to the college after serving as a founding faculty member and Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Biomedical Sciences at the University of South Carolina School of Medicine in Greenville, SC. She earned her doctorate in Pharmaceutical Sciences with a specialization in Pharmacology and Toxicology from Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University College of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences and then completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Michigan in the Department of Pathology. A Past Chair of the American Society for Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics (ASPET) Division for Pharmacology Education, Dr. Reuben is the current Chair-Elect of the Physiology, Pharmacology and Therapeutics Section of the American Dental Education Association (ADEA). Dr. Reuben has authored articles and presentations on the recruitment and retention of underrepresented groups into health sciences careers and her research in the field of inflammation has been published in dental and medical journals. In addition, she has presented numerous continuing education and career development workshops for health science faculty and students.
CAPT Karen Hearod, Regional Administrator SAMHSA – Substance Use Disorder and Mental Health
CAPT Hearod is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and a member of the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma. Before accepting her current role as Regional Administrator, CAPT Hearod served as the Indian Health Service Oklahoma City Area Acting Behavioral Health Consultant. In this position, CAPT Hearod had oversight over behavioral health and substance abuse programs across Oklahoma, Texas, and Kansas providing services impacting 410,00 Native Americans. In addition to providing leadership as Chair for the IHS National Zero Suicide Advisory Committee, she served as a member of the National Suicide Crisis Policy Committee working to establish the first IHS national suicide care policy. During her federal career, CAPT Hearod has served as the Chief Behavioral Health Officer for the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma. She led the creation of the Choctaw Nation Wind Horse Treatment Center providing family-centered substance abuse prevention and treatment services for high-risk families in an area with little access to care. She also facilitated the transition to a fully-integrated Electronic Health Record for Behavioral Health with Choctaw Nation Health programs greatly improving continuity of care. SAMHSA’s Regional Offices provide expertise on behavioral health and serve as a link between SAMHSA and other Federal agencies, States, behavioral health service providers, community-based organizations, and others in the region.
