Identifying & Responding to Victims of Human Trafficking for General Dentistry

Effective September 1, 2020, all dental health care personnel, including dentists, hygienists, and RDAs will be required to complete human trafficking prevention training to renew their state license or certification. In partnership with Unbound, this course meets the TSBDE renewal requirements for human trafficking and is approved by Texas Health and Human Services (HHSC). This course is available at no cost for all dental professionals regardless of membership in the Texas AGD.
Course Objectives

Learn different types and trends of human trafficking at local, statewide, and international prevalence.

Identify potential signs of human trafficking in victims who present for dental care.

Understand the oral health professional’s role in identifying, treating, and referring victims.

Note common oral injuries that trafficking victims may present with, as well as reasons why victims typically under report abuse associated with these injuries.

Understand who should participate in a multi-disciplinary care model for victim identification and recovery.

Discover immediate healthcare needs of identified victims.

Develop trauma-informed response and learn available responses for victim services and aftercare.

You will receive a Certificate of Completion for your records immediately upon course completion. If you are an AGD member, your credit will be submitted on your behalf to AGD within one month after course completion.
This course is on the Pathway 2 Fellowship program and qualifies for credit toward Fellowship in the AGD.
About Kerri Taylor
Kerri Taylor is the Executive Director of Unbound Houston. Kerri serves on the board of the Brazoria County United Front Coalition to Fight Human Trafficking which brings educators, advocates, business people, medical professionals, and law enforcement together to cross-train, coordinate, collaborate and create a continuum of services for survivors of human trafficking in that community. In addition, she is a member of the No Trafficking Zone board for NRG established in 2020, and serves alongside other advocates in Galveston County as a coordinated response to human trafficking is developed through the Galveston County Crisis Response Team (GCCRT). She earned her Bachelor’s Degree from Baylor University where she majored in Education with a specialization in Speech Pathology and Audiology and earned her Master’s degree in both subjects from John A. Burns School of Medicine at the University of Hawaii. Throughout her career, Kerri specialized in serving the birth to three population, as well as adult rehab patients. She is a retired speech/language pathologist in private practice, where she specialized in adult neurogenic disorders.
