Course Description
This discussion will highlight several aspects of minimal enteral sedation and nitrous oxide. We will present aspects of the Texas sedation rules that are of particular concern for sedation providers. Some specific nuances of sedation pharmacology will be highlighted as well as a demonstration of monitoring nuances and pitfalls. We will conclude with a discussion about complications associated with the use of nitrous oxide.
Course Objectives
- The participant will learn specific elements of the Texas dental sedation rules that are most associated with dentists practicing outside the standard of care.
- The participant will learn pharmacologic distinguishing nuances of triazolam, diazepam and lorazepam.
- The participant will learn limitations of pulse oximetry.
- The participant will learn complications associated with nitrous oxide/oxygen analgesia.
About the Speakers
Dr. Ernie Luce earned his dental degree in 1985 from the University of Texas in Houston. From there, he completed a general practice residency at the dental school in San Antonio. Since then, he has held a full or part time faculty position in San Antonio. His professional interests are in sedation and providing dental care for the medically compromised patient.
